In-house · per patientExpertCare · CVD medicines optimisation
A high-impact CVD medicines optimisation solution for NHS primary care — integrated with EMIS and SystmOne, concordant with NICE, and proven in the real world.
CVD remains a leading cause of death and disability in the UK.
Many could have been avoided if the patient had been optimally treated.
CVD drives a dual burden — personal suffering, and heavy, avoidable NHS costs.
Systemised, automated virtual care — optimising medicines across whole populations, one patient at a time.
Is standard care failing?
Increasing incidence of CVD, an ageing population and pressure on primary care. Leading cardiovascular organisations have acknowledged it — current approaches are no longer fit for purpose.
A new approach
By automating elements of decision-making and integrating seamlessly with EMIS and SystmOne, ExpertCare enhances workforce productivity, ensures NICE concordance, and enables system-level efficiencies.
How ExpertCare works
ExpertCare works inside the clinician’s workflow, pulling the patient’s coded record straight from EMIS or SystmOne.
Comorbidities, therapeutic history, current clinical status and guidelines — in any combination.
A rules-based engine weighs every factor together — not one comorbidity at a time.
Personalised, evidence-based prescribing advice — the clinician stays in charge, and every reason is recorded.
Combined with pharmacist-led implementation to streamline and speed up CVD medicines review — and reduce variation in care.

Frequently asked
DXS ExpertCare is an expert system which provides prescribing advice with the dual objectives of controlling the patient’s blood pressure to an appropriate target, whilst also achieving conformance with treatments recommended by NICE for the management of hypertension and relevant comorbidities.
Unlike clinical decision support that makes recommendations one comorbidity at a time, ExpertCare makes a recommendation based on any combination of:
It overcomes one of the main criticisms of NICE guidance — that it is monothematic, and hard to apply to real patients with comorbidities.
ExpertCare interprets the patient’s coded record to infer any condition that might influence hypertension treatment, and provides context-sensitive advice from the SPC of all drugs used to treat hypertension. The clinician is notified of:
It is up to the prescriber to evaluate this in clinical context — childhood asthma might be a caution for a beta-blocker, whereas current asthma would be a contraindication.
